The term “Electronica” was first used in the USA in the early 1990s to describe post-rave global-influenced electronic dance music. Electronica roots are in techno, drum and bass, downtempo, and ambient music. Today “Electronica” includes a wide range of contemporary electronic music that is not necessarily made for dancing. Prior to the adoption of “Electronica”, terms such as electronic listening music, and intelligent dance music (IDM) were used to describe this genre. See Wikipedia for additional info. |
